Summer is really looking good, guys. Sure, the weather is looking pretty awesome outside, but if the heat’s getting you down, going to the movies is going to be an excellent alternative to the feeling of your entire body melting.

Jurassic World

Chris Pratt wrangles raptors

Synopsis and credits: Read on IMDB
22 years since the release of the original Jurassic Park, this installment brings us to a new successful theme park that seems to be running well, until the newest attaction (the genetically modified Indomitus Rex) escapes confinement and all hell breaks loose. Makes sense that hell breaks loose, otherwise we wouldn’t have much of an action movie plot going on. The movie stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and a bunch of nice and not-so-nice dinosaurs.
The movie is formulaic and full of good ol’ tried-and-tested tropes (that will get you wondering why in the world are they still using these?), but surprisingly, still a rather enjoyable cinematic experience. The special effect are outstanding, as one would expect of a movie of this calliber, and the pace is always fast an exciting. The movie even passes the Bechdel test, even though it’s using that sad old tale of the cold-hearted career woman that requires a force of nature passionate kind of guy to shake her back into her senses. She even spends the entire movie running in heels for god’s sake.
That aside, it’s a fun movie to watch and good start of the summer blockbuster season.

Spy

Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne

Synopsis and credits: Read on IMDB
And where Jurassic World fails, there’s Spy to show you how it’s done. The comedy action film starring Melissa McCarthy delivers massive LOLs. She plays Susan Cooper, a desk-bound CIA agent that volunteers to be an undercover agent after a mission goes wrong and her partner (played by Jude Law) is killed. The movie also boasts a great comedic supporting cast with Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Allison Janney, and the includes the last person you could imagine being hilarious, Jason Statham.
This film is proof that if you put Melissa McCarthy and director Paul Feig, movie magic is bound to happen. Comedy gold, more like it. If you’re not sure why, just check out some of these most notable examples. McCarthy definitely is a force to be reckon with in Hollywood and partnerships with Feig make her truly shine. Spy will be a very tough contender to beat in the comedy category this year!
The spoof espionage theme serves as a great medium to deliver plenty of over-the-top laughter and fun. And it does so while passing the Bechdel test with flying colors!

Magic Mike XXL

The Tampa Kings at StripCon

Synopsis and credits: Read on IMDB

Three years after the events of the first movie, the Tampa Kings get together once more for the performace of a lifetime. And all of us gentlemen lovers out there wholeheartedly thank them for it. Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, and Kevin Nash reprise their gorgeous “male entertainer” roles (and so does comedian Gabriel Iglesias); while newer members to the ensemble cast include Jada Pinkett Smith, Donald Glover (who you may also know as rapper Childish Gambino),Amber Heard, Andie MacDowell, Michael Straham, and Elizabeth Banks.
While this installment does not have the same narrative and depth critics loved so much, it does have a more relaxed plotline with lots of sexy, fun scenes. Did I mention sexy? Because dear lord, are those guys sexy! Matt Bomer is as dreamy as it gets (and he sings, too!). NFL player Michael Straham has a very small role, but those abs of his are long enough on screen to make and lomg-lasting impression. And then there’s my favorite werewolf of all time, Alcide Herveaux himself, Mr. Joe Manganiello (Sofia Vergara, you lucky dog!). And for pecs-and-abs fest the movie represents, it is surprisignly female-friendly and passess the Bechdel test.
This movie will also go down in history as, without a doubt, the best rendition of “I want it that way” by the Backstreet Boys. Indeed, I do want it!
