When I told people “I’m going to see the new Star Wars” or my subsequent announcement of “I’ve seen the new Star Wars” I got the same reaction: no spoilers, please! I’m not a monster, people, I would not do that to you. I don’t embrace the dark side of the Force, if you know what I mean.
I’ll tell you this much: the plot continues to be a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. The story picks up a couple of decades after the events of Episode 6. There is a brand new dark force wrecking havoc. New good guys emerge, aided by some old good guys. Explosions, gunfights, and of course, lightsabers. See? Nothing you wouldn’t have seen on a trailer.
I don’t need to spoil it to tell how awesome the movie was. J.J. Abrams has done well. The creative team for this one (which of course includes George Lucas) has come up with a good story that ties in well with all previous installments, yet fresh enough to appeal to new audiences. I have a very strong feeling (the Force, maybe?) that you could follow and and enjoy this movie, even without having watched all previous installments. I say this is a feeling because I actually watched all 6 movies again the week before. I know, what a nerd!
The movie is over 2 hours of pure entertainment. It’s pretty fast-paced and had superb special effects. The cast, newcomer Daisy Ridley and John Boyega in particular were incredibly good and have injected fresh new energy to the franchise. Of course, seeing some of the familiar faces from the previous movies (I’m talking to you Harrison Ford) totally warmed my heart!
The hype is completely justified. Go watch the movie!
