Synopsis: Read on IMDB

Should you watch this movie? Sure, it’s a fun movie to watch, even though it’s about a-capella group competitions (although if you are a fan of Glee, then you’ll definitely see the thrill). The music, performances, and script are all pretty nice, and even though you can easily predict what’s going to happen in the end, that will not spoil the fun.

Beca is a college freshman with very little interest in any activities having nothig to do with her real passion: mixing tracks and DJing. She is “persuaded” to join an a capella group called The Bardem Bellas with some fellow oddballs and 2 very passionate previous members. The story follows their journey to win Nationals, a journey shared by another group from their own school who are much better than they are.

The movie has all the makings of a sappy musical comedy, but instead it’s a pretty well written story with great roles and plenty of comedy and excitement. I’m a bit of a sucker for musicals and looove covers (yes, I’m a Glee fan), which may make me far from impartial in this review. In my defense, however; you know I have a “low bullshit treshold” when it comes to certain plotlines. I’m happy to report than although the movie follows your typical story of “rising above the challenges and obstacles” (you know how this movie is going to end), at least the journey from A to B is a pleasurable one.

For starters, the performances are pretty cool. And although Miss Anna Kendrick (of Twilight fame, but Up in the Air accolades) is the star of the movie as Beca, the show is completely stolen by Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy. In case you don’t remember, she was one of Kristen Wiig’s roommates in Bridesmaids. This woman is hilarious and I expect she will have a pretty nice career in front of her. She gets pretty awesome lines, which incidentaly is the other reason this movie is cool. Lines such as “You guys are going to get pitch slapped so hard, your man boobs are gonna concave” or this one here:

Bumper: So I have a feeling that we should kiss. Is that feeling a good feeling or an incorrect feeling?
Fat Amy: I sometimes have a feeling I can do crystal meth, but then I think, mmm… better not.

I know right? There is not much else I can’t say about it really. It won’t win an Oscar, but maybe an MTV Movie Award. It’s not going to cure cancer either, but it could cheer you up if feeling odd. Go watch, it’s cool!
