Should you watch this movie? sure! It’s fun movie to watch with great performances from the latest of Hollywood’s elite.
Inspired by the events of the infamous Abscam scandal, American Hustle follows the story of Irving Rosenfeldt, a con artist and his partner Sydney Prosser who get caught by FBI agent Ritchie DiMaso and forced to collaborate in a sting operation to catch corrupt New Jersey polititians.
After watching this movie I thought it was nice, but Oscar worthy? You have to dissect the whole endeavor to really understand why critics love this movie. The key to its success is how every single starring character is very well written, with many layers to them, giving the actors that play them lots of material to work with and kill it. It was the same in Silver Linings Playbook as it in American Hustle. And like the former all actors of the latter were nominated for the acting awards.
Christian Bale plays Inrving Rosenfeld and Amy Adams plays Sydney Prosser. Of the two the biggest chance of getting the Oscar nod is Amy Adams. As usual, she is fabulous, but she faces huge competition in the category. A somewhat controversial nomination has been for Jennifer Lawrence as Rosalyn, Bale’s character’s unstable wife. Her performance was brilliant and I’d say even better than what she did in Silver Linings, but some claim she was too young for the part and another nomination feels like too much too soon after her win for Silver Linings.
Think what you want, but the performances add to a gret, entertaining movie for sure!
