Should you watch this movie? Oh yeah! I’ve got two words for you: Henry Cavill. That’s all the argument for this movie I need. If you are a lady or a gentleman who likes other gentlemen you totally know what I’m talking about. If you are into exploding stuff and overall mayhem, you’ll love it too!
It’s a Superman movie. No explanation required I suppose, but let’s do it anyway: this movie is a reboot of previous Superman movies. The son of a prominent couple in the planet Krypton, Kal-El is only a tiny baby before his parents send him away before the destruction of their planet. He ends up on Earth being raised as “Clark” by Johnathan and Martha Kent, a couple from Smallville, Kansas. He faces the typical struggles of growing up with the added complication of him being different from everyone else. When Clark learns of his true origins, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery, to find his true purpose and place in this world. When a threat from his own world emerges, he needs to step up as a hero to save mankind from anihilation.
First of all, let’s get something out the way: I am madly in love with Henry Cavill’s Superman. The man looks good in every outfit he wears in that movie, from the crappiest t-shirt to his superhero suit (sans red underwear thank goodness!). He looks even better without a shirt on and there are several scenes where you can feast your eyes on those perfectly chiseled abs and pecs (although there can never be enough of those scenes!). His face is gorgeous and dreamy and one flash of his sexy smile and panties dropped all over that movie theater. Even the heterosexual males had trouble keeping their underwear on. Now back to the movie….
What makes this installement a good reboot of the Superman story is how it takes us deeper into the life of Clark Kent and what it was like for him growing up. We learn more about his home world and the lessons he learned from his adoptive parents, played by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, who I have to say is stll gorgeous with all the makeup effects to make her look realistically like the mom of a 33 year-old. Russel Crowe does a decent job as Jor-El, Superman’s dad, but my favorite Kryptonians (aside from Superman himself) were definitely Michael Shannon as General Zod and German actress Antje Traue as Faora-Ul, his second in command. I wonder if the former would ever be able to play a role that is not a deranged asshole of some kind. And the latter plays a pretty cold and vicious b•i•tc•h. **Love it!**
Adding to the all-star cast are Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Lawrence Fishburne as The Daily Planet’s editor Perry White. Both actors did great as expected of stars of their calliber, but there was nothing extraordinary in their performance to report. The genral tone of the movie is pretty dark in comparisson to othersuperman versions which have more of a whimsical aspect to them. And something imteresting about the movie is this is one of the few movies I thought perhaps had too much action that perhaps could’ve been skipped. I mean, we get it, the gravity is heavier in Krypton and you guys are angry at each other, do you really hve to smash so many buildings in the process?
It is a good movie worth watching, no matter what some critics say, but bear in mind, it is a long movie (2 and a half hours!), so if you have a tiny bladder, restrict your fluid intake while you watch!
Paola’s mood after watching this movie:
Henry Cavill warms my heart!
