Synopsis: Read on Amazon
Author: Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
The follow-up of Beautiful Creatures, Imanage to read this one faster than I did the first one. The continuation of the story was just as captivating and definitely made me want to know what happens next (it’ll have to wait till Beautiful Chaos, the 3rd out of 4 books in The Caster Chronicles, as this series is known)
The first installment of this book series just opened a door that let us peek into a world of magic and supernatural creatures in the little town of Gatlin. After the tragic events of the first book, Ethan and Lena manage to stick together for a while, but the loss Lena suffered makes her pull away from her relationship with Ethan. He still has a strong connection to Lena, but now he starts experiencing visions and supernatural ocurrences on his own, making him realize the evils unleashed before Lena’s 16th birthday are still lurking and getting stronger. He finds himself at the center stage of the story and how it will be up to him to be the salvation Lena needs right now.
Beautiful Darkness is several pages longer than Beautiful Creatures, but I found myself more captivated and in a rush to finish this one. The plot thickens and the complexities of the Caster world come to the surface here and we learn much more about it. There are lots of plot twists you probably won’t see coming, but once you read those you’ll feel a sense of “I knew it” (but you probably would not have imagined a chapter before that was going to happen).
I’m really happy this book is well written and captivating enough for 15 year-olds (the target audience of this genre), but I have to say as no longer a “Young Adult”, I find myself equally interested and excited to keep reading! The only downside of this book is the last chapters feel a bit rushed in comparisson to the beginning, kind of like a movie that starts slow and focuses on describing everything in detail, and then leaves all the crazy, action-packed scenes in the end. That, however; did not bother me much because I started right away with the next installment to not lose momentum!
